Teri Steinberg will train families to prepare for what happens at age 22, when the school is no longer responsible for filling a student's day. She will focus on ways students can start preparing for the transition process at 14 1/2, and what families need to do at age 18. Teri will offer practical steps toward the process of Discovery, utilizing the student's gifts and abilities to create a job. Participants will see where they are in the process and take on more responsibilities toward a life of self-direction. The alphabet soup of PUNS, ISC, SP, DRS, CILA, and MICROBOARDS will be explained.
Teri Steinberg is a frequent lecturer, facilitator, consultant, and trainer on disability issues. She has worked in the disability community through grants from the Illinois Council of Developmental Disabilities, the Department of Human Services, and the Illinois State Board of Education, including as Faculty Advisor for Illinois Partners in Policymaking, Chicago Regional Manager for MicroBoards & Cooperatives, and Community Partner for Illinois Autism Technical Training & Assistance Project. She consults on transition programs, and with schools and families on person-centered planning in keeping with the principles of self-determination and living an inclusive life in the community.
