Another Bigger Virus Case Hike In Western Springs: County

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — For the third week in a row, Western Springs saw another increase in its coronavirus case rate, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,144 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 36 from a week earlier, or a 3.4 percent hike. Each of the two previous weeks, the village saw 3.2 percent and 2.7 percent hikes.

The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

Here is how Western Springs' coronavirus cases have accumulated since the pandemic's beginning:

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 86.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 76.3 in Darien, 79.2 in La Grange Park, 86.1 in DuPage County, 86.6 in Hinsdale, 89.3 in Elmhurst, 94.6 in Clarendon Hills, 94.8 in suburban Cook County, 99.6 in Burr Ridge and 109.8 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,299,575, up 1.6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,653 state residents.

Nationally, 31.4 million people have caught the virus, up 1.6 percent from the week before. A total of 563,216 people have died from the virus in the United States.
