Beloved Western Springs Teacher Dies at 31

Western Springs, IL - Ashley Jurjovec, a 31-year-old math teacher at McClure Junior High School in Western Springs, died May 10.

Visitation will take place May 16 and 17 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Robert J. Sheehy and Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st St. in Orland Park, according to the funeral home.

Lying in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7800 S. McCarthy Road in Palos Heights. The interment will be private.

"Mrs. Jurjovec's death is devastating for all of us," said Western Springs School District 101 superintendent Brian Barnhart. "She was an amazing person, a fantastic teacher, she was really beloved by her students, colleagues and parents. This is just a true loss."

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 17060 Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park, IL 60477, in lieu of flowers.

Barnhart said school district personnel have been in contact with parents and students since they learned of Jurjovec's death. Additional personnel and district resources were made available at McClure beginning Tuesday morning.
