Car Crash Leaves 1 Dead in Western Springs

The car collided with two utility poles early Wednesday morning.

A car accident early Wednesday morning in Western Springs has resulted in the death of one man, police reported Wednesday.

Around 12:18 a.m., police said, Western Springs and La Grange policemen responded to a report of a car that hit two utility poles on the 4400 block of Gilbert Ave. in Western Springs.

Officers arrived at the scene to find Matthew Talley, 33, unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a 2014 Ford Focus. Pieces of a damaged utility pole and fallen wires were scattered across the roadway, and several residences are still without electricity as a result of the accident.

Police said it was obvious Talley had suffered life-threatening injuries after coming into contact with the poles and that upon finding him unconscious, they administered CPR and tried to save his life. It wasn’t until the La Grange Fire Department came to the scene and transported Talley to Loyola Hospital in Maywood that he was pronounced dead.

Talley was from La Grange.
