Car Theft, Burglaries Reported Overnight in Western Springs

The one stolen car has since been recovered.

Western Springs Police are investigating 12 car burglaries and a car theft that took place late last night and early this morning.

The police department reported the crimes as occurring between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. today in northwest Western Springs — specifically the 3800 to 3900 blocks of Woodland Ave., Grand Ave., Lawn Ave. and the 4000 block of Central Ave.

The burglaries revealed patterns: in each case, cars were entered through unlocked doors and loose change, cash, sunglasses and wallets were stolen.

In the instance of the car theft, the unknown offender was able to get into the unlocked car and found its key fob, a device that allows a driver to start their car without putting a physical key into the ignition.

The car has not been found.

However, a different missing car was found early this morning on the 3900 block of Lawn Ave. It had previously been reported stolen in Chicago.

The Western Springs Police Department urges all residents of the village to lock their cars, use any built-in security systems they might have and to always remove valuable objects from sight when leaving the car.

Residents should call 911 if they see anything suspicious, including slow-driving, unlit cars at night, people looking into car windows and car alarms or the sound of breaking glass, the police said.
