Construction Begins On 55th Street In Western Springs

Repairs on all of the 55th Street bridges are scheduled to be completed in two stages.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Construction will soon be completed on the 47th Street overpass, and will soon begin on 55th Street over I-294 and 55th Street bridges over Flagg Creek, according to a release from Illinois Tollway. On Sept. 14, all lanes on the 47th Street bridge over I-294 will reopen. Traffic on each of the 55th Street bridges will then be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted, the Illinois Tollway said in a release.

According to the tollway, repairs on all of the 55th Street bridges are scheduled to be completed in two stages with lane closures expected to be in place for up to three months. Bridge repairs include pavement patching, bridge deck repairs, bridge joint replacement and repairs on bridge beams, piers and girders.

In 2018, the Illinois Tollway said it is repairing eight local crossroad bridges including Cermak Road, 31st
Street, 47th Street, 55th Street, Willow Springs Road and Fifth Avenue over I-294 and the 47th Street and
55th Street bridges over Flagg Creek.
