WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – The stage version of “The Graduate” is coming to the Theatre of Western Springs in June. The play will run over a two weekend span (Thursdays through Sundays) from June 6-16 at the venue located at 4384 Hampton Ave. in Western Springs. Terry Johnson's stage version has several scenes that were not in the book or the film and a majority of the cast is from the west suburbs of Chicago.
From the TWS Marketing Team:
To quote a line from the play: “Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me ... Aren’t you?”
When the story begins, Benjamin Braddock has just arrived home in Southern California after graduating from an elite Eastern college. He’s smart, accomplished, rich, and...anxious.
It is the 1960’s. Ben rejects his parents’ lifestyle of shallow ideals, stiff martinis and social elitism, but he has no clear path ahead.
While brooding about his future, Benjamin is seduced by the older Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his father's business partner. What begins as an affair turns complicated when Benjamin falls for the one person Mrs. Robinson demands he stay away from - her daughter Elaine.
“The Graduate” was first written as a novella by Charles Webb in 1963. The film version debuted in 1967 and made Dustin Hoffman a star. The film’s popularity was phenomenal, and it became a cult classic.
Tickets are $21 and $23, depending on the night of the show. Call the box office at 708-246-3380 or find them online.
