Lucky Lottery Stores Scatter the Western Suburbs, Powerball at $800M

Is it possible for lighting to strike twice in the same place? How about three or four times?

With the Powerball Jackpot jumping to $800 million — the largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history — players are ducking into corner convenience stores and gas stations across the nation to snag a ticket or two before the Saturday drawing.

The chances of matching all five numbers, plus the Powerball are 1 in 292,201,338. The place that sells the winning Powerball ticket will receive a bonus of half a million dollars.

And for the skeptics out there, Illinois resumed lottery payouts Dec. 14, 2015.

To help you find the luckiest stores around, we dug deep into the Patch wayback machine and the Illinois Lottery archives to pull out some of the west suburban retailers that have sold big jackpot winners.

Elmhurst:

• Power Market, 572 West Lake St., Elmhurst. Sold a $100,000 Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick ticket to an Elmhurst resident for the Oct. 6, 2012, drawing.

• Minuteman, 218 East Butterfield Road, Elmhurst. Sold a $1 million Mega Millions Quick Pick ticket to a group of Oak Brook ComEd employees that had been playing for six years. The drawing was on Oct. 21, 2014.

• 7-Eleven, 525 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst. A winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket good for $800,000 was sold on April 30, 2015.

Another store lucky for Elmhurst residents:

• 7-Eleven, 1790 North Farnsworth Ave., Aurora. Sold a $50,000-winning Illinois Lottery Crossword instant ticket in July 2015 to an Elmhurst resident.

La Grange:

• 7-Eleven, 704 E. 31st St., La Grange. Sold a $10,000 winning ticket in the January 2015 New Year’s Millionaire Raffle.

• 100 N. La Grange Road, La Grange. Sold a $100,000 Little Lotto ticket on May 13, 2011.

Countryside:

• 5540 South Brainard Ave., Countryside. Sold a $1 million-winning $4,000,000 Gold Bullion instant ticket in Nov. 2014.

Downers Grove/Woodridge:

• Dupage Inn, 2410 West Ogden Ave., Downers Grove. Sold a $4 million 50X The Cash instant ticket in June 2013 to a Glen Ellyn woman.

• Convenient Food Mart, 8290 South Janes Ave., Woodridge. Sold a $450,000 Lucky Day Lotto ticket in a March 25, 2015, drawing.

• United Liquor, 6218 Main St., Downers Grove. Sold a $100,000 Little Lotto ticket on March 26, 2011.

• Jewel-Osco, 2317 75th St. in Woodridge. Sold a $1 million Mega Millions Quick Pick ticket to a Downers Grove couple for the March 18, 2014, drawing.

Another store lucky for Downers Grove residents:

• Villa Park Mobil, 1 East St. Charles Road in Villa Park. A Downers Grove man bought a 50X The Cash lottery ticket that won him $2 million in June 2015.

Darien

• Darien Pantry, 737 Plainfield Road in Darien. Sold a 50X The Cash ticket that instantly won $100,000 in May 2013. The store also sold a $150,000 winning Little Lotto ticket in May 2011.

Oak Park

• Roosevelt BP, 7140 West Roosevelt Road, Oak Park. Sold a $400,000 jackpot-prize-winning Quick Pick Lucky Day Lotto ticket to a Forest Park woman for the March 29, 2015, drawing. Also sold a $1 million Quick Pick Mega Millions ticket for the Dec. 6, 2013 drawing.

• 7-Eleven, 6440 West Diversey Ave., Oak Park. Sold a winning $5,000 A Week for 20 Years- The Good Life instant ticket in April 2014.

• Clark Oak Park, 330 Chicago Ave., Oak Park. Sold an $8.75 million Lotto Quick Pick ticket for the Oct. 19, 2013, drawing.

• True Discount Food Mart, 1155 Garfield St., Oak Park. Sold a Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick ticket that won a $150,000 jackpot prize in the Oct. 9, 2013, drawing.
