WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — The country honors the life and achievements of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. with a national holiday in his name on Monday, Jan. 21.
Although it's a federal holiday, most retail businesses will be open. But it's always a good idea to call ahead and check. Here's a look at how Martin Luther King Jr. Day will affect businesses, schools and services around Western Springs.
- Federal offices: closed.
- Post offices: closed.
- Lyons Township High School: No school.
- District 101: No school.
- State offices: closed.
- Thomas Ford Memorial Library: Open.
- Banks: many are closed; check your local bank schedule.
- Metra and CTA: normal weekday service.
- Malls, restaurants: open.
Martin Luther King Day is not a holiday for refuse services, so expect trash and recycling pickup to happen as usual this week.
