A Milestone For Western Springs During Pandemic

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw no new cases of the coronavirus in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. That has not been the case since June 2020.

As of Sunday, the village had a total of 1,321 coronavirus cases.

The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at six. The latest deaths were reported May 31, May 11 and Nov. 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 53 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

Here is how Western Springs' coronavirus cases have accumulated since the pandemic's beginning:

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 98.9 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 81.7 in Darien, 88.2 in La Grange Park, 91.7 in DuPage County, 93.7 in Hinsdale, 94.5 in Elmhurst, 100.2 in Clarendon Hills, 102.2 in suburban Cook County, 104.4 in Burr Ridge and 121 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,390,432, up 0.1 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 23,199.

Nationally, 33.3 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 0.3 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 601,221 people have died from the virus in the United States.
