Music Studio Setting Up Shop In Western Springs Building
Renovations at Grand Avenue Community Center are part of the village's agreement with the studio.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A music studio plans to rent space in a vacant portion of the village's Grand Avenue Community Building.
Mattix Music, which is now in the local Christian Reformed Church building at 52nd Street and Wolf Road, plans to move into the center as part of an agreement with the village government. It is set to take the space of Music Makers, which moved to 4332 Howard Ave.
According to its website, Mattix Music, owned by Katie and Dan Mattix, offers music instruction through lessons and classes. It plans to move into the center at 4211 Grand Ave. as early as January.

As part of the agreement, the village is set to spend up to $75,000 for renovations to the space in the center, including converting six rooms into three.
With Mattix's rent about $25,000 a year, the improvements should be paid for in three years. Under the contract, Mattix is obligated to pay for three years of rent.

The agreement is for five years and the Mattixes hope to stay in the space for many years after that, according to village documents.
"It's nice that we're getting another music studio at Grand Avenue. It's a good use of the space," Western Springs Trustee Nicole Chen said at Monday's Village Board meeting.
The board approved the agreement with Mattix Music.
