New Chequers of La Grange Cordon Bleu chef puts personal touch on new menu

David Humphrey wants to make restaurant for all in the area and beyond

People have been used to the English-Irish style at Chequers of La Grange and now they are in for the personal touch of Cordon Bleu trained chef David Humphrey with a few menu changes and enhanced preparation, according to a Suburban Life story.

The restaurant describes itself as a “gastropub” on its website. It offers “traditional English fare with a wide range of beer and wine. It also advertises corn beef and cabbage on its website along with bagpipe music Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Humphrey said he hopes his attention to detail is noticed by diners. There is little less but everything is made from scratch, according to the Suburban Life.

“The changes that I’ve made are condensing the menu,” Humphrey said in the Suburban Life. “I’m keeping the staples, but everything has to be from scratch. The sausage for the (English) bangers is from scratch. We’ll have five different varieties of burgers and four kinds of salads.”
