Uber Driver Involved in Hit-and-Run, $10K of Jewelry Stolen from Western Springs Home: Police

The following items were taken from the Western Springs police blotter throughout the past week.

DUI

  • Downers Grove native Nicolas Tysiak, 22, was stopped while driving early in the morning of New Year’s Eve. Tysiak was pulled over at 55th Street and Woodland Avenue for speeding, but a series of failed field tests led cops to believe he was driving drunk. A breath sample he later provided determined his blood alcohol content level was above the legal 0.08.

Drugs

  • Alfredo Barrios-Nava, 23, was driving near Lawn Avenue and Chestnut Street the morning of Dec. 29 when he was pulled over for talking on his cellphone. Police also found that he had a suspended driver’s license and 2.5 grams of suspected marijuana in his car.

Burglary

  • A Western Springs resident reported to police around 9:30 a.m. Dec. 29 that someone had broken into their home on the 4000 block of Wolf Road and stolen an estimated $10,000 in jewelry, as well as other valuable items. The victim said it was a clear forced entry.

Identity theft

  • A resident living on the 5100 block of Wolf Road told police someone had illegally opened several credit cards in their name without consent. The incident was reported around midnight Dec. 29.

Hit-and-run

  • Around 6 p.m. Jan. 1, police received a report that an unknown Uber driver had hit someone’s car on the 4500 block of Woodland Avenue and fled the scene. Police are still investigating the incident in hopes of finding the offender.
