Western Springs Hosts Spelling Bee

The Western Springs Recreation Department will host a Spelling Bee on Thursday, March 1, from 7 to 9 p.m.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — The Western Springs Recreation Department will host a Spelling Bee on Thursday, March 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grand Avenue Community Center, 4211 Grand Ave. According to the recreation website, the purpose of this event is to raise awareness and money for honeybee research with all proceeds being donated to those endeavors.

Although this event is free, donations to protect the honeybees will be accepted at the door. All ages are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate. Teams of two are also accepted. Prizes will be awarded. The co-organizer of this event, Bernadette Miao, is a local high school student and finalist in the 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The number of contestants are limited to 30; spectators are limited to 50. You may register at the door if space is available. You can register for the Spelling Bee at the park and recreation website.
