Western Springs Prepared for Any Rail Disaster

Officials say regular disaster drills have them prepared for potential railway accidents.

The Doings reported on Aug. 1 that officials in La Grange and La Grange Park said they are prepared for possible disaster situations on rail lines in both villages.

Western Springs Fire Chief Pat Kenny said crews in the Western Springs Fire Department train regularly for situations ranging from derailments to chemical spills and evacuations.

The most recent railroad accident in the Western Springs area occurred at the Gilbert Avenue railroad crossing earlier this year , killing the driver.
