Western Springs' Quickest Athletes Compete in Sunday's Chicago Marathon
Nearly 50 residents showed up to run the 26.2 miles.

CHICAGO, IL — Nearly 50 Western Springs athletes slipped on their running shoes and took part in Sunday's Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The 26.2-mile course took runners through 29 Chicago neighborhoods that went all the way north to Wrigley Field and south to US Cellular Field.
David Pawlowski, 39, was the first Western Springs resident to finish the race at a time of 2:51:19, according to unofficial Chicago Marathon results. He finished 407th overall, 369th in his gender and 70th in his 35-39 age division.
Close behind Pawlowski was James Casey, who finished in 3:14:47 and placed 95th in his 50-54 age group.

Here are some of Western Springs' other fastest finishers:
- Lisa Devereux, 27 (25-29 age division), 3:19:29
- Mark Shurhay, 50 (50-54 age division), 3:28:48
- Arunas Jurkus, 49 (45-49 age division), 3:30:41
- Catherine Mullen, 26 (25-29 age division), 3:32:28
- Kyle Liebentritt, 31 (30-34 age division), 3:38:17
Elite runners from Kenya dominated the race. Kenyan Abel Kirui finished first with a time of 2:11:22, beating out last year’s champion and fellow Kenyan Dickson Chum in the final mile. Florence Kiplagat, 29, was the top female finisher clocking in at 2:22:31. Results are still unofficial.
