Western Springs Sees Another New Low In Virus Cases

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw another new low in its weekly percentage increase in coronavirus cases since the summer, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 957 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up seven from a week earlier, or a .7 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 1.7 percent increase.

The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 72.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 68.4 in La Grange Park, 69.5 in Darien, 75.7 in Hinsdale, 77.9 in DuPage County, 79 in Elmhurst, 82.4 in Clarendon Hills, 86.5 in suburban Cook County, 91 in Burr Ridge and 96.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,186,696, up 1.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20,516 state residents.

Nationally, 28.3 million people have caught the virus, up 1.7 percent from the week before. A total of 508,949 people have died from the virus in the United States.
