Western Springs Sees Increase In Virus Rate: County
The village has not seen a coronavirus death since November, agency says.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw an increase in the weekly percentage hike in coronavirus cases, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. It passed the 1,000 mark.
As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,018 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 25 from a week earlier, or a 2.5 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 1.6 percent hike.
The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 76.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most its neighbors. The figure compares to 71 in Darien, 72.5 in La Grange Park, 79.4 in Hinsdale, 80.5 in DuPage County, 82.7 in Elmhurst, 87.1 in Clarendon Hills, 88.9 in suburban Cook County, 93.4 in Burr Ridge and 100 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,220,432, up 1.1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,059 state residents.
Nationally, 29.5 million people have caught the virus, up 1.3 percent from the week before. A total of 538,261 people have died from the virus in the United States.
