Western Springs Sees Small Hike In Virus Cases: County
The number of coronavirus deaths has remained the same since November, agency says.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw a small increase in the weekly percentage hike in coronavirus cases, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,045 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 27 from a week earlier, or a 2.7 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 2.5 percent hike.
The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 78.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 71.8 in Darien, 74.4 in La Grange Park, 81.3 in DuPage County, 81.9 in Hinsdale, 83.8 in Elmhurst, 88.9 in Clarendon Hills, 90 in suburban Cook County, 94.6 in Burr Ridge and 102.8 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,232,900, up 1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,203 state residents.

Nationally, 29.9 million people have caught the virus, up 1.2 percent from the week before. A total of 543,975 people have died from the virus in the United States.
