Western Springs Teens Can Serve On Jury
Students serve as jurors in cases ranging from curfew violations to selected felonies, village says.
WESTERN SPRINGS —The Western Springs Police Department is looking for residents ages 13 to 18 who are interested in taking part in a peer jury. This is open for those who want to be involved in hearing cases involving students their own age while helping to determine appropriate consequences for a variety of offenses.
The Western Springs Peer Jury has helped guide area students since 1997, according to the village's website. The police department's state-certified officers and adult volunteer coordinators run the program, and teens serve as jurors, hearing cases referred by the police department. A jury consists of eight teens. Cases range from curfew violations to misdemeanors and selected felonies, the website says.
