The productions will be in celebration of Women's History Month, which is March.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — The Theatre of Western Springs recognizes National Women’s History Month with performances of women’s monologues at the Cattell Theatre, 4384 Hampton Ave., Western Springs. Performances take place at:

  • 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 15

In recognition of the month, the theater will feature “Illuminated Dresses,” by Debra Kaufman and directed by Burr Ridge resident Linda Roberts. It is an all-female collaboration of playwrights, actors and technical personnel.

Also performed by a woman, a second play is a single monologue titled “50 Guns,” by Alex Broun and directed by Mike Huth of LaGrange Park.

“Guns impact American life daily, even hourly,” director Mike Huth said in a statement. “Is it the guns or the people that create heartbreaking events? '50 Guns’ is one woman's perspective.”

“Illuminated Dresses” brings divergent voices and a variety of dresses to the stage, according to a theater news release. The article of clothing in each scene has profound significance in the wearer’s life. From a little black dress to a hospital gown, the dresses become characters.

“One of the things I want people to see is the way that women are telling their stories is very authentic, very intimate,” playwright Debra Kaufman said in the news release.
