WS Rec Dept Traveling Basketball Team Tryouts

Preregistration Begins August 17, 2015

The Western Springs Recreation Department has announced the tryout schedule for its youth traveling basketball teams. The program is designed to give more competitive players an outlet for developing skills, teamwork and experiences on a basketball team. These teams represent the Western Springs’ community in leagues and tournaments from November to March. The travel program focuses on a player’s skill development necessary for competitive basketball, and there is more emphasis on winning than in the recreation basketball programs. Players are not guaranteed equal playing time during games. A commitment to team practices and games is a critical element for the success of the team and the satisfaction gained by the players. Parents must consider their child’s time and ability to make such a commitment.

Children trying out must be in the proper grade and live in Western Springs or attend school in WS Dist #101, LGH Dist #106 or St. John of the Cross. There is no charge to tryout and preregistration begins August 17, 2015 by calling 708-246-9070 ext 418. Please leave the child’s gender, grade, name, address, phone number and parents’ names.

Tryouts for boys in grades 4th–8th (known as the BLAZERS) will be held Saturday, August 22, 8:30 am–3:30 pm, and tryouts for girls in grades 6th–8th (known as the WILDCATS) will be held Wednesday, August 26, 5:30–8:30 pm. All tryouts are held in the WS Recreation Center, 1500 Walker St. All players making a team will be charged an initial fee of $525.00. Come ready to play.
