Deer Fled Crash Scene: Yorkville Cops

A deer hit a Yorkville man's car during peak mating season.

YORKVILLE, IL — Drivers must be careful this time of year when avoiding deer on the road. A deer hit a Toyota Prius Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. near the corner of Route 126 and Wooden Bridge Lane. Peter Sahles, 75, of Yorkville was traveling west on Route 126 when a deer ran out and it the driver's side rear door. It scratched and dented the rear door, and broke the window. "The deer fled the scene," according to the police report.

In early October, Patch warned readers that deer-vehicle collisions are at their peak this time of year, and offered some helpful hints on how to avoid hitting one on the road.

According to the University of Illinois Extension, white-tailed deer mate from October thru January, with the peak occurring from late-October to mid-November.
