Christmas Tree Pickup Begins Jan. 8 In Iowa City

Remove all decorations, garland and lights from your tree before placing it on the curb for collection, city officials say.

IOWA CITY, IA — Crews will begin collecting discarded natural Christmas trees at the curb beginning Monday, Jan. 8, in Iowa City. Collections will continue through Friday, Feb. 2.

Residents who receive City of Iowa City garbage, recycling and yard waste service should place their natural trees at the curb on their regular collection day. The trees will be picked up at no additional charge and then composted at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center.

Before placing trees at the curb, be sure to remove all decorations, including ornaments, lights, tinsel and garland. Do not put the tree in a plastic bag.
