Downtown Business Leader to Run for Iowa City Council

Catherine's and Cheap and Chic owner Catherine Champion is running for a seat on Iowa City Council.

A leader in the downtown business community plans to run for election to the Iowa City Council.

The Catherine Champion for City Council Facebook page was launched on July 2.

Champion is a leader with the Downtown Association and owner of Catherine's and Cheap & Chic. She is also the daughter of longtime City Council member Connie Champion, who said she will not seek re-election after four terms and 16 years.

“We make decisions that affect a lot of people,” Connie Champion told the Daily Iowan last month. “I think it’s time for new blood.”

Catherine Champion will seek an at-large seat in the Nov. 5 election.

She is holding a meet and greet on Wednesday, July 17 from 4-6 p.m. on the patio at Bo James, 118 E. Washington St., according to her Facebook page.
