Independence Day Closings Announced For Iowa City

The City's annual fireworks display has been cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic.

City of Iowa City administrative offices and other facilities will be closed Friday, July 3, 2019, to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

The City's annual fireworks display has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Normal City operations will resume Monday, July 6, 2020.

Airport: The office will be closed, but Jet Air will be open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and 24-hour self-serve fuel will be available.

Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed.

Trash & Recycling: Garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection will run normally on the holiday and Friday.

Landfill: Open Friday, July 3. Closed Saturday, July 4.

City Hall: Closed.

Library: Closed.

Oakland Cemetery: Closed.

Parking: Office closed. City ramps and metered parking will not be enforced.

Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices will be closed, and most facilities remained closed due to COVID-19. Other facilities are open:

  • Parks
  • Dog parks
  • Playgrounds- open, but not sanitized. Please use cautiously at your own risk.
  • Tennis and pickleball courts
  • Outdoor basketball courts
  • Trails
  • Terrell Mill Skate Park

Police: Administrative offices and records closed. Patrol will operate normally.

Senior Center: Closed.

Transit: No transit services.

Water: Closed.

Wastewater: Closed.
