Iowa City Celebrates Police Department Promotions With Ceremony
Five promotions in the police department were effective in November, but the ceremony involved the symbolic pinning by family members.

From the City of Iowa City: The Iowa City Fire Department celebrated several promotions with a pinning ceremony on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017.
Eric Nurnberg, a 16-year veteran of the Department, was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief and is responsible for directing and coordinating all emergency operations, is the point of contact for all facilities, manages special projects and serves as the Department’s accreditation manager.
Zach Hickman, a 16-year veteran of the Department, was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief and is responsible for directing, coordinating, and monitoring department responses to fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and technical rescue incidents, as well as coordinating the Special Operations Team.
Bryan Hardin, a 14-year veteran of the Department, was promoted to the rank of Captain and is assigned to Station 1, Shift A and provides supervision over firefighters and lieutenants assigned to four stations. He is also responsible for directing responses to emergency incidents, performing commercial and University building inspections, and code enforcement.

Thomas Hartshorn, a three-and-a-half year veteran of the Department, was promoted to Lieutenant and is assigned to Station 4, Shift B and will be responding to emergency incidents, performing commercial building inspections, code enforcement, conducting company training, and maintaining logs and special activity records.
Each officer had their rank insignia pinned-on by a member of their family, and received a new helmet shield that reflects their new position. New assignments began on Nov.14, 2017.
