Iowa City Firefighters To Participate In Live Training During Controlled Home Burn

The Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) will partner with ACT to conduct a live fire training from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at a structure located at 1650 N. Scott Boulevard, across the street from Harvest Preserve. This property is owned by ACT and is being removed.

ICFD will use the interior of the house for several live fire situations to train newer firefighters, officers, and officer candidates prior to conducting a controlled burn of the remainder of the structure in the afternoon.

Traffic impacts

On the day of the burn, access to North Scott Boulevard will be restricted to one lane, and will remain available for emergency access to ACT and neighboring residences.

Periods of light smoke from the training are expected, followed by a much larger emission of smoke and fire later in the day when the structure is allowed to burn, in a controlled manner, into the foundation.
