Three car burglars were caught this morning as they were in the midst of  opening unlocked vehicles along Westgate Street and stealing items from them, sorting their load in a car nearby.
According to an Iowa City Police complaint, the men were caught after officers received a report at 2:29 a.m. this morning of three black males checking cars along Westgate Street and stealing from the cars that were unlocked.Â
When officers arrived, they were alerted to the presence of the three men when a car alarm went off and he saw all three running from the scene. One of the  men was caught initially and the other two were caught soon after by other officers. Two men were identified as Kyonte Dartanian Williams, 18, of Dover Street in Iowa City and Bryton Demarous Jones, 18, of Esther Street in Iowa City. The third was a juvenile and is not being identified by police.
The three allegedly admitted to taking items from the vehicles (nine in total) and sorting them in their car as they searched for more. In total the three stole a "small amount of cash, an IPod, a digital camera, Air Jordan shoes, and a flashlight" from a total of three vehicles, according to the complaint.
Jones and Williams were each charged with three counts of third-degree burglary from a vehicle, an aggravated misdemeanor. They are currently both still in the Johnson County Jail.Â
