Iowa City Shares Budget Process Over 'Breakfast On A Budget'

Meet with council members and ask questions about the city budget over a light breakfast Saturday at City Hall.

IOWA CITY, IA — Iowa City's City Council will kick off the annual budget process with its first ever "Breakfast on a Budget" Saturday at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St. Council members will be available for a meet and greet from 7:30 to 8 a.m. over bagels, doughnuts, juice and coffee to answer budget questions.

A budget overview will follow, provided the City Manager’s office, and residents are invited to stay and learn more about this year's budget and how it impacts Iowa City.

"Breakfast on a Budget" will begin the city's annual budget process and continue with two informational work sessions to review the proposed budget. The public is welcome to attend. Sessions will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, both at City Hall.

These sessions are information presentations on city staff’s budget recommendations to the City Council. Formal public comment opportunities will occur later in January and February as budget deliberations advance.

Residents who cannot attend the breakfast or work sessions can watch the morning portion of the Saturday meeting and the entire Tuesday meeting live online, replayed on City Channel 4 and archived at www.citychannel4.com/video.
