Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday: What's Open, Closed In Iowa City
The federal holiday affects banks, garbage collection, municipal offices and more.

IOWA CITY, IA — City Hall and administrative offices in Iowa City will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The city reported the following schedules will be in effect:
Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed.
Oakland Cemetery: Closed.

Landfill and Recycling Center: Closed.
Library: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices closed, but Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, Mercer/Scanlon and pools will be open regular hours. Details at www.icgov.org/pr
Parking: Parking will run normal operations. Details at www.icgov.org/parkingoptions
Police: Patrol and station masters will be on duty. Records and administrative office will be closed.
Senior Center: Closed. Elder Services will not serve senior meals.
Trash & Recycling: Refuse, recycling and yard waste will not be picked up. Residents on the Monday route should have their materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, although the city cannot determine exactly when items will be collected.
Transit: City Transit on Monday will operate on a regular Saturday schedule from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. More information at www.icgov.org/transit.
Water: The Water Division office will be closed; residents with a water emergency should call the 24-hour emergency line at 319-356-5166 for assistance.

In addition to city closings, most banks will be closed and all state and federal offices will be closed. U.S. Postal Service mail will not be delivered and post offices will be closed.
Iowa City schools will not be in session Monday.
