Mayor Chosen Today By Iowa City City Council
The positions of mayor and mayor pro-tem are selected among council members rather than a public vote.

IOWA CITY, IA — Members of the City Council voted today to continue the mayoral term of at-large council member Jim Throgmorton. He was sworn in this morning to a second term.
Council members voted 6-0, with Rockne Cole absent, during an 8 a.m. special session. Throgmorton's term will continue until 2020.
Throgmorton has lived in Iowa City since 1986 and is a professor emeritus at the University of Iowa. He is active in a variety of civic and nonprofit groups and enjoys reading, hiking, bicycling and exploring cities and natural areas, according to his profile on the city's website. He has a doctorate in urban and regional planning from the University of California-Los Angeles.

The Council also selected District A City Council member Pauline Taylor to serve as mayor pro-tem. She replaces Kingsley Botchway II, who began his second term as an at-large council member.
