OBITUARY: Stephen C. Conner

Stephen C. Conner, 52, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 1st at his home in rural Tiffin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 5th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove with Father Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the Stephen Conner Memorial Fund has been established.

Steve was born March 4, 1962 in Iowa City, the son of Ronald and Judy Eckermann Conner. Steve was a 1984 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Business. On September 22, 1991, he married Barb Snavely in Lake Tahoe, California.

Steve was employed for over 22 years at Hawkeye Food Systems as the CFO. From 1985-1992, he was as employed as a CPA at McGladrey’s in Rock Island.

Steve was member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. He was an intelligent man who was committed to any endeavor he took on. He loved the outdoors and was most proud of his home and farm, “Celestial Acres”. Steve was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved to quote lyrics from his favorite movies -- especially “Tombstone” and songs.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barb and their daughter, Jackie (Brian “The Airman”) Walters of Las Vegas; his mother, Judy Conner of Coralville; his siblings: Jeff Conner of Coralville, Craig (Doreen) Conner of West Branch and Ronda Isakson (Dick Wehrle) of Maple Lake, Minnesota; an expectant grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; and his beloved German Shepherds, Juneau and Rusty.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, his godfather Matt and other family members.
