OBITUARY: Thomas "Tom" C. Ziskovsky

Thomas "Tom" Ziskovsky, 64, of Coralville, died peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2014.

A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 5th at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service -- 605 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City, where the family will greet friends from 3 p.m. until service time.

Tom had MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and lived most of his life in a wheelchair, but he never let that keep him from helping others and trying to get people to smile. Tom volunteered thousands of hours at the Veteran’s Hospital. He carried charts in the basket of his chair and sat with people waiting in the surgery lounge. He was always ready with a gentle joke or story. Among his many jobs, he worked at the Coralville Hy-Vee handing out samples and helping people with recipes or finding items in the store. We will all miss his jokes and thoughts of the day.

Tom was born November 22, 1949 while his parents lived in Shueyville, Iowa; and graduated from City High in Iowa City in 1968.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kendra Ziskovsky; sisters, Maureen (Nick) Arensdorf of Coralville and Jean (Rafael) Manrique of St. Paul, Minnesota; he was also loved by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Virginia Ziskovsky of Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upper Midwest Chapter.

Tom’s family would like to thank the caring staff at Windmill Manor and the many people in the community who knew Tom and supported him in his independence.
