Police: Repeat Domestic Abuser Follows Family Member to Find Girlfriend After Told 'Go Away'

Alfonso Reid Jr. has been charged with felony domestic abuse. He has three previous conviction in the past five years.

 

An Iowa City man, who'd been arrested three times before for domestic abuse, faces a felony after police say he followed a family member to find his girlfriend and proceeded to get in a struggle.

Police charged Alfonso Reid Jr., 40, of Iowa, with domestic abuse at 1:25 p.m. on Sunday. That is a class D felony.

They say a woman he was living intimately with since January had left and didn't wish to speak with him.

A family member told Reid to "go away" and "not to follow," but Reid proceeded to followed the family member to where the woman was located, according to police.

He proceeded to get "face-to-face" in an argument with the woman over their relationship and a phone, according to police. He grabber her to "bring her close to talk to her" and then a brief struggle ensued, police stated.

He was also arrested for public intoxication.

He admitted "drinking a lot last night, and I may still be at that level," according to the police report. 

Reid has three previous convictions including two in 2008 and another in 2010. 

Reid is being held in Johnson County Jail on a $7,500 cash bond.
