Take Part In The Iowa City Implicit Bias Summer Series

The City of Iowa City Human Rights Commission recognizes that the events of the past year have spurred many important community dialogues around topics such as racial justice, oppression, and privilege. Our goal is to encourage community members to continue engaging in these conversations in an informed and equitable manner.

It’s important to note that even the most well-intentioned among us have unconscious bias. It affects our behaviors, decision-making processes, and interactions with others. When we identify our biases, we can make informed decisions that help us reduce and avoid unintentional discriminatory behaviors.

With these things in mind, we created the Iowa City Bias Challenge, a summer series which encourages community members and leaders to become familiar with their own biases. This series, which kicked off on June 3rd, includes free educational opportunities, as well as a social media challenge. The Human Rights Commission encourages community members to take the Harvard Implicit Bias Test and to share on social media why understanding implicit bias is important using the hashtag #icbiaschallenge.
