The Deadwood was part of my regular routine in college - usually one of the late night stops that were a little cloudy the next day.
But, until recently, it had been years since I stopped in the old towny bar. Still, I like to know it's there if I want to watch a Cubs game with a Bloody Mary.
The other day I was walking down Dubuque Street and noticed a sign that they are now selling "coffeehouse coffee," which struck me as odd because I had always thought of Deadwood as the place to drink PBR and whiskey.
Inside, same as ever minus the smoke, they have a coffee machine that pumps out lattes, mochas, cappuccinos and the rest. And, they are now using a brand called LaRue Coffee Roasterie out of Omaha.
Fear not, Deadwood isn't going on the wagon. The bartender said the coffee is a step up from what they had been serving - a fair number of people stop in during the day for coffee - and the coffee machine offers several new and better options for mixed drinks, such as White Russians.
