Veterans Day Schedule Announced For City Of Iowa City

Administrative offices at City Hall will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, in observance of Veterans Day.

To honor those who have served, Transit is offering complimentary rides to veterans and their families on Monday. Riders are asked to show a military ID or other identification that indicates veteran status.

Unlike past years, curbside garbage, recycling, and organics will be collected on the holiday.

Other office closures and schedules for Monday, Nov. 11 include:

Airport: Office closed. Jet Air will be open.

Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed.

Cemetery: Office closed. Grave decorations: Beginning Saturday, Nov. 2, artificial wreaths, artificial flowers, or other decorations may be placed on graves for Veterans Day or for the holidays. These materials may remain in place through the end of February. If not claimed, they will be removed.

Landfill and Recycling Center: Closed.

Library: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ICPL Bookmobile: Not in service.

Parking: Normal operations.

Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices closed. Normal operations at both recreation centers.

Police: Administration and Records offices closed. Patrol and station masters on duty.

Refuse, Recycling and Yard Waste: Curbside garbage, recycling, or yard waste will be collected normally.

Senior Center: Closed. No senior meals.

Streets: The City's Leaf Vacuum Program will operate. More at www.icgov.org/leafvacuum.

Transit: Normal operations, and free rides will be available for veterans and their families on fixed-route City buses and Johnson County SEATS on Veterans Day. For more, call 319-356-5151.

Water: Office closed. For water emergencies, call the 24-hour emergency number at 319-356-5166.

City offices and operations will return to normal on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
