Winter Storm Warming Monday Night

Monday night snow could lead to problems on the roads. Will this continue?

The mild winter we have had to this point has taken a turn today. The National Weather Service reports that we can expect 4-7 inches by morning, with a Winter Storm Warning until 3:00AM. It’s time for Iowa City to break out the plows in full force as we‘re in for a potentially rough couple of days.

In a blustery weather outlook issued Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service said that temperatures will drop to 2 degrees tonight and well below zero Tuesday and Wednesday, at times.

The forecast for the Iowa City area showed the following:

  • 100-percent chance of snow the rest of Monday with up to 7 inches possible. Low of 2.
  • A high of 11 Tuesday with patchy blowing snow. Wind chills as low as -15 during the day and a low of -10 with wind chills as cold as -30 Tuesday night.
  • High of -4 on Wednesday, with more blowing snow and a wind chill much colder before an overnight low of -18.

Please check your tires, leave plenty early if you have to drive, and take other precautions to be safe on these snow-covered roads.
