September 4, 2020

The City of New Orleans has announced that, in order to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 on short-term rental (STR) operations, all short-term-rental licenses and permits that expired Aug. 21, 2020, through Sept. 20, 2020, are hereby extended for one (1) additional month from the expiration date listed on the face of the permit.

The City is pursuing enforcement actions against illegal or unlicensed short-term rental activity. This will include requesting that platforms remove non-compliant listings. The City will not request delisting for licenseholders whose license has been extended and whose listings conform with their permits or for licenseholders with pending applications where the listing is otherwise compliant. The City may request delisting for failing to include a license or application reference number for both an owner and operator permit, advertising more bedrooms than are legally permitted, and/or advertising over capacity, among other violations of law.

Applications may be submitted by email to str@nola.gov and will be kept on file in the order received until capacity is restored.

STR permits with original expiration dates between March 20, 2020, and Aug. 20, 2020, were previously extended from the expiration date listed on the face of the permit. These permits are hereby extended for one (1) additional month from the extended expiration date.

For example:

  • Permits or licenses that expired on March 25, 2020, originally were extended to not expire until June 25, 2020. These permits and licenses shall not expire until September 25, 2020.
  • Permits or licenses that expired on May 15, 2020, originally were extended to not expire until Aug. 15, 2020. These permits and licenses shall not expire until Nov. 15, 2020.
  • Permits or licenses that expired on June 22, 2020, shall not expire until Sept. 22, 2020.
  • Permits or licenses that expired on Aug. 21, 2020, shall not expire until Sept. 21, 2020.

Questions about STRs may be submitted to str@nola.gov. While the expirations deadlines have been extended, applicants must apply for permits as soon as possible.
