Cruises Diverted To New Orleans Due To Hurricane Harvey

The ships are waiting for the Galveston, Texas port to reopen ... a date which still is uncertain.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Due to Hurricane Harvey flooding in Texas, three Carnival cruise ships are diverted today to New Orleans until the Port of Galveston reopens -- which could be later in the week, officials said.

The three Galveston-based ships, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Valor and Carnival Breeze, are allowing passengers to disembark and secure independent arrangements to return home or travel elsewhere. Or, if their schedules allow, guests can stay on board the ships, which will depart New Orleans today or Wednesday.

The three ships will head toward Galveston to ready to enter the port when it reopens, Carnival officials said.

The uncertainty due to the storm prompted cancellation of some sailings, including the Aug. 31 Carnival Valor trip. Full refunds will be provided to guests scheduled on those cruises, the company said, adding that a 25 percent future cruise credit will be applied to their next reservation with Carnival if booked within the next 60 days.
