“Throughout the pandemic, our residents have suffered not only from health struggles, but from the economic impacts that have left many unemployed,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “It is extremely important that we connect our residents to the jobs and resources at our disposal, and virtual job fairs are a great way to link job seekers with employers in this current climate. As we adapt to our new normal, we want to make sure our residents are prepared for future employment and that they are connected to industries that are stronger than before.”

In addition to the career fair, JOB1 will be launching transitional jobs (subsidized employment) for residents who are unable to secure employment. These jobs will pay $12 per hour for up to nine months through the National Dislocated Worker Grant. These funds will be utilized to transform this challenging and uncertain employment landscape to career-changing opportunities connected to in-demand industries. The focus will be on healthcare, critical services (Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans, New Orleans Sanitation Department, and New Orleans Recreation Development Commission) and humanitarian services (Second Harvest Food Bank, partnering with the New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board to train participants to sanitize public and private buildings).
The goal of JOB1 Business and Career Solutions is to provide employers with a skilled workforce and to link job seekers to employment that leads to self-sufficiency. JOB1 provides employment and training services federally funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
