Meet an “Amazing” Whose Really Cookin'!

Leah Chase, 93, is truly the queen of Creole cooking.

Leah Chase, 93, is truly the queen of Creole cooking. She is still a force to be reckoned with as Chef at the Dooky Chase Restaurant where she works from 8:00 am to midnight. Her superb cooking has drawn such illustrious guests as President and Mrs. Obama, Ray Charles, Oprah and Thurgood Marshall, to name but a few. Leah married into the business, as it were. She started working at her new in-laws’ restaurant 70 years ago and never left. She had truly found her home. In her signature red chef’s jacket, Leah greets diners with an ever-enthusiastic smile and manner.

In addition to her many awards in the cooking world, Leah received the Times-Picayune’s Loving Cup Award for her service to the community and the coveted American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana’s Ben Smith Award for her work to promote racial equality. She considers herself the luckiest woman in the world--and I would say the world is lucky to have her among us!
