Online Convention Reaches Accessibility Milestone
Jehovah's Witnesses move their annual convention to an online streaming platform. It has been translated in over 500 languages!

New Orleans—Wednesday, August 5, 2020—Jehovah’s Witnesses’ first ever virtual convention is proving to be a resounding success, bringing a breath of fresh air to many in New Orleans. They are among millions worldwide who are watching the six online installments at no cost during the months of July and August. To accomplish this historic feat, volunteer translation teams worked tirelessly over the past several months to produce the “Always Rejoice”! program in over 500 languages, including many sign languages, making it a truly unique, global event.
Jehovah’s Witnesses pivoted their keystone summer convention series to an online platform as concerns about large gatherings first surfaced in early spring. Now, upwards of 15 million are benefitting from that decision, including the local Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic and Chinese speaking communities. Many have expressed deep gratitude for this provision. One such resident is Betty Tide. Betty has been enjoying the program in her native language of Haitian Creole. She says, “I feel very happy and privileged to be able to listen to the program in my own language. I would like to thank all of the people that helped put this convention together. Their efforts and hard work are benefitting people everywhere.” Betty will continue viewing the “Always Rejoice”! program with her husband and young son.
“This virtual convention is unique in many ways,” says James Gianopoulos, a local spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “The program is available to all at no cost and without obligation. There is no registration, no paywall. If someone wants to enjoy the program, they can simply watch.”
