Tropical Storm Nate In New Orleans: Where To Get Sandbags

As Tropical Storm Nate churns toward New Orleans, several sandbagging locations have opened.

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Tropical Storm Nate’s exact path is uncertain as it churns toward the southern Gulf Coast, but New Orleans is under a hurricane warning and residents are encouraged to prepare for 7-foot walls of water crashing onto parts of the mainland Saturday night or Sunday morning.

New Orleans Parish: New Orleans Fire Department stations will have sandbags 24 hours a day until further notice at 987 Robert E. Lee Blvd., 2000 Martin Luther King Blvd., 4115 Woodland Ave., 2118 Elysian Fields Ave. and 5403 Read Road.

St. John the Baptist Parish residents should be prepared to fill their own sandbags at the following locations: the intersection of Bamboo Road and Indigo Parkway (near Lake Pontchartrain Elementary), Railroad Avenue Fire Station (near Riverside Academy), Ezekiel Jackson Park, Westbank Complex, and the Wallace, Edgard and Pleasure Bend fire stations. Pre-filled sandbags will be offered to the elderly and disabled from 7 a.m-7 p.m. Saturday at 425 Captain G. Bourgeois.

St. Tammany Parish: Sandbags will be distributed from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at St. Tammany Parish – Government Building C, 21410 Koop Drive, Mandeville; St. Tammany Parish Public Works – Fritchie Barn, 63119 Highway 1090 in Pearl River; and St. Tammany Parish Public Works Barn – Keller Barn, 63131 Fish Hatchery Road, Lacombe

St. Charles Parish: Residents can obtain sandbags at East Bank Bridge Park and West Bank Bridge Park, or in the following district locations:
District I

  • Hackberry Street between Gassen Street and Luling Estates Drive
  • Bamboo Street and Plantation Road
  • Pioneer Drive and Settlers Drive
  • King Street behind the school
  • End of River Park Drive
  • School House Road near railroad tracks
  • Boutte Estates at the curve

District II

  • Willowdale Boulevard and East Heather next to the levee
  • Rex Street between Davis Drive and Evelyn Drive
  • Sugarhouse Road and Angus Drive
  • Ama Grain Field
  • Lakewood Elementary School

District III

  • Red Church Subdivision
  • Ormond Fire House on Ormond Boulevard
