During the month of July, Shreve Memorial Library Blanchard and North Caddo Branches will also host Leap into Science programs. On Wednesday, July 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Blanchard Branch will host a program on exploring light. Two separate workstations will be set up outside of the branch, located at 344 Alexander Street in Blanchard.  At the shadow workstation, participants will see how materials of different transparencies affect shadow creation, while participants at the light workstation will discuss how light creates color and use transparent sheets to mix colors.

On Monday, July 19 at 12:00 p.m., participants at the North Caddo Branch can enjoy a virtual Leap into Science storytime via Zoom. During the live Zoom presentation, children will learn how shadow puppets and shadow shapes can aid in storytelling, including how to get the best lighting for shadows to appear. The program will take place via Zoom, and registration is required. Participants can register at https://bit.ly/3vhYrjO.

Leap into Science is a nationwide program developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum, integrating open-ended science activities with children’s books. The program is free, and targets children ages 3 to 10 years of age and their families.  Leap into Science makes science and reading fun for children and their families. Participants explore the science of light and shadow, learning what light is and why we see shadows.
