This summer and throughout the fall, Shreve Memorial Library presents a new STEM program, Leap into Science, making science and reading fun for children. Leap into Science is a nationwide program developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum, integrating open-ended science activities with children’s books. The program is free, and targets children ages 3 to 10 years of age and their families. The library kicks off the program during “National Leap into Science Week,” June 7 through June 13.

A mixture of in-person and virtual Leap into Science Light and Shadow programs are scheduled for the month of June. Participants will explore the science of light and shadow, learning what light is and why we see shadows. In-person programs will take place outside in parking lots at the Means, Hamilton/South Caddo, North Shreveport, and Hollywood/Union Avenue Branches. A mask for patrons age 8 years and older and social distancing is required. Registration is required for virtual programs held via Zoom.

The Means Branch, 7016 E Magnolia Ave in Ida, will host its program on Wednesday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m.  Library staff will read the book entitled Blackout, and participants will visit six workstations with activities exploring light and shadows.
