Attorney Becomes Family’s 4th Gen. Elected to MSBA Leadership
Stacy O. Stitham will take office as Vice President in 2021, exactly 100 years after her great-great grandfather served as MSBA president

LEWISTON, Maine (December 18, 2020) – Brann & Isaacson attorney Stacy O. Stitham has been elected to a one-year term as the Vice President of the Maine State Bar Association (MSBA) beginning in January 2021. Stitham, who most recently served as an MSBA governor for the Androscoggin district, will continue her family’s legacy of leadership at the MSBA by becoming the fourth generation elected to a board officer position.
Exactly 100 years prior, Stitham’s great-great grandfather, Charles W. Hayes, served as the organization’s president. Her great-grandfather, Harold M. Hayes, also held that position. Most recently, Stitham’s grandfather, Stuart E. Hayes, held the office in 1978. Collectively, Stitham’s family practiced law at a northern Maine firm for more than a century, before her father left private practice for the judiciary.
“Growing up, there wasn’t a lot of pressure for me to join the family profession,” Stitham said. “But becoming actively involved in the local and state community was instilled in me from a very young age. I am honored to be serving the MSBA during this dynamic time for the legal profession, and to be reviving a longstanding family tradition in the process.”
Earlier this year, Stitham was honored with the Janet Milley Award for Board Service by Pine Tree Legal Assistance, which provides free civil legal assistance to low-income residents of Maine. She has also been honored by Super Lawyers three years in a row for her work in business and intellectual property litigation. In addition to her service to the MSBA, Stitham teaches business law classes at Thomas College and serves on the Board of Trustees for her alma mater, Foxcroft Academy. Stitham graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Harvard College in 2002 and earned cum laude honors upon receiving her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2005.

“Stacy’s election to serve as vice president is a testament to the well-deserved respect she has earned from her colleagues and her commitment to furthering the legal profession in Maine,” said Dan Nuzzi, another partner at Brann & Isaacson. “We’re proud of her accomplishment and look forward to seeing her succeed in this role next year.”
At Brann & Isaacson, Stitham represents business clients in civil and commercial litigation. She has litigated patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright and corporate cases in state and federal court and before administrative agencies. Stitham also advises clients on compliance issues, including data privacy and security. Prior to joining the firm, she served as a law clerk to United States District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of Maine.
