The Department of Transportation has hired Pike Industries to complete some pavement maintenance on four bridges on I-295 in Portland and South Portland. The work is scheduled to begin on Monday Evening, October 28, and will continue each night until complete. The work is weather-dependent but is anticipated to be completed before the following weekend. Working hours will be from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. There are variable message boards on the highway right now stating that work will begin on October 27, but Pike Industries decided to delay the start until Monday October 28 due to Sunday's forecast of rain.

The four bridges that will be repaired are as follows: Tukey’s Bridge Northbound and Southbound, Fore River Bridge Northbound, Fore River Bridge Southbound, and the Fore River Parkway Bridge Northbound.

The work on Tukey’s Bridge will entail cold planning (milling) of the existing asphalt and repaving. The other three bridges will be overlaid with new asphalt.

All of this work is maintenance in nature to preserve the bridge surfaces until more thorough work on the bridge surfaces can be completed in years to come.
