City Of Portland: Voting Information For June 8 Municipal Election

June 4, 2021

Tuesday, June 8, 2021 is Election Day for the Special Municipal Election for the Charter Commissioners and School Budget Referendum. The City’s 11 polling locations will open at 7:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM. Polling locations will look the same as they did in November with booths spread out, frequent sanitizing, and election workers will be wearing masks. Voters are encouraged, but not required, to wear a mask or face covering when voting. 

Today, Friday, June 4 is the last day to request your absentee ballot unless you have an unexpected event, are an Island Voter, and/or a voter with disabilities and you inquire about a Special Circumstance Absentee application. 

Absentee ballots must be returned to the municipal clerk no later than 8:00 PM on Election Day, June 8. Absentee ballots must be returned to the Clerk’s Office in the Merrill Auditorium Lobby or the outside 24/7 official drop box (Myrtle St side of City Hall) and not to your polling place. 

If you requested an absentee ballot, but now wish to vote in person on Election Day, you may do so as long as you have not returned your absentee ballot.

About the Charter Commission / Charter Commissioners Election ProcessCity of Portland voters approved creating a Charter Commission to open up review of the City Charter during the July 14, 2020 Election. On August 10, 2020, the City Council approved the appointment of three members to serve on the Charter Commission and established that nine additional members elected by Portland voters will serve on the Commission. Voters will elect the remaining nine members of the Commission during the June 8 Election, and then the Charter Commission will begin its work of reviewing the City Charter.
